Summary: While we all make decisions every day, we do not always consider the ethical implications and influences on them. It is clear that many factors impact on our decisions, often without little thought or consideration. Whether it be conscious, upbringing, laws, religion, character, role, culture or something else, it is likely that decisions, character and behaviors are shaped by morals, values and ethical standards. This module will explore those influences, their relationships and how they shape moral development.

Module I Learning Objectives:
1. Identify key influences of the historical ethical systems; define concepts that relate to ethics, including integrity, professionalism, values, public trust, morality.
2. Define theories on moral development.
3. Describe the relationship and influences of laws, values, morality, ethics, discretion and society on decision making and ethical standards.

Module I Road Map and Guide: Getting organized and planning for the completion of the module requirements are important. Attached you will find a checklist that will help you stay on track and guide you through the module requirements. Two formats have been provided, Word and PDF. Module I Road Map Guide.doc or Module I Road Map Guide.pdf.

Module I Weekly Commitments: Set aside time each week to work on the class. See specific due dates in the syllabus link.

Week 1 Responsibilities - Explore class, read syllabus, get organized, take Navigation Quiz and participate in Discussion #1. This includes your introduction. Read Chapter 1 and review Lecture 1.

Week 2 Responsibilities- Read Chapter 2 and review Lecture 2. Print a copy of the Module I paper assignment and begin creating your first draft of the paper. Be sure to review the Writing Requirements in the syllabus and the grading rubric so you know what is expected.

Week 3 Responsibilities- Read Chapters 4 and 8, review Lectures 3 and 4, and complete second draft of your Module I paper assignment. Post to Discussion 2.

Week 4 Responsibilities- Complete Module I paper assignment. Study for Exam 1 by reviewing lecture and book notes, and completing the crossword puzzle terminology study guides for Lesson 1 - 4. Post to Discussion 3 and complete Exam 1.
