Welcome to the Uppercase lowercase podcast – a podcast for creative types!

My name is Lynn McClelland. I am English faculty at Paradise Valley Community College and the current co-director of the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Employee Engagement.

This podcast serves multiple purposes. First, I use the podcast to explore a variety of topics in education, science, media, and the arts. The “An Outsider’s View Inside” podcast series explores topics outside my personal expertise via research and by interviewing faculty, staff, and students to get their insights, knowledge, and experience on the subject matter. Podcasts with Dr. Casey Durandet on the James Webb Space Telescope and with Dr. Jon Storslee and Sam Fraulino on Photoshop represent the first two podcasts in that series.

The second purpose of my podcast is to demonstrate how podcasts can be used in education as an alternative assignment to a paper or essay. The podcasts on Gordon Parks, the James Webb Space Telescope, Photoshop, and Partnering included research from a variety of sources with the information cited from these sources as evidence to support the work.

July 11, 2022 Episode 2- An Outsider's View Inside - Photoshop

In this episode, I explore a short history of Photoshop and its impact on education, art, and graphic design with PVCC's Dr. Jon Storslee and. Sam Fraulino. From its link to Star Wars and special effects artist John Knoll to Sam's design of the graphics on this page, Photoshop remains one of the most important graphic design editors ever created and remains the industry standard to this day.

The main benefit of digital media in education is that it can increase student engagement. In addition, it helps students work through difficult concepts with multiple resources. It can fuel creativity as well, especially if your student has a hand in the creation of the content.

June 27, 2022 Episode 1 - An Outsider's View Inside - The James Webb Space Telescope

The Uppercase lowercase podcast - a podcast for creative types is the creation of Lynn McClelland. This is the first episode of "An Outsider's View Inside." In this episode, Dr. Casey Durandet answers some basic questions about the James Webb Space Telescope. What kind of telescope is it? How far away from earth is it orbiting? How far back in time will we be able to see? And finally, she answers questions about the nature of dark matter and dark energy. Tune in to learn more about the JWST.
