Value of PAR Mentors

Thank you for agreeing to serve as a PAR Mentor. Your experience and guidance are invaluable.

Mentors are a key part of the PAR team that supports probationary faculty members as they navigate their first five years in the Maricopa Community College District and construct their annual Individual Development Plans (IDPs).

The mentor/mentee relationship should be constructive, respectful and full of opportunity. Knowing your own expectations of what you would like in this relationship is important. A mentor should be someone who will help their mentee develop their skills in teaching or other work activities, provide them with advice when needed, and give them insights into professional growth and service opportunities within their department, their college, and the district.

Expectations for Mentors

PAR Mentors should familiarize themselves with the Maricopa district IDP and PAR processes, requirements, and deadlines according to Article 17 of the Faculty Agreement

PAR Mentors support probationary faculty members’ activities and growth in three key areas: instruction, professional development, and service. They observe their mentees’ instructional or primary work activities once per semester for mentees in years 1 and 2, and once per year for mentees in years 3-5.  Mentors provide feedback on these observations for the probationary faculty to reflect on in their IDPs; they also review and provide guidance for the IDP completion.

Mentor Training

PAR Mentors are required to complete PAR training. The District Faculty Developers Council (FDC) creates and maintains this training.

If you have not already, please review the Mentor Training documentation, then complete this quiz, which serves as evidence of completion.

Please answer all of the questions on this PAR Mentor Training Quiz and click the submit button. To count as completing the required PAR Mentor Training, you must score at least 80% or better.  You can retake this quiz to improve your score.
