ASSIGNMENT: What personal qualities make a business person successful?

Essential Question for this assignment: What makes a business person successful?

STEP ONE: Prepare to take notes on the successful Arizonans in your Reader's Notebook so you can explain the personal qualities and as well as the resources/services that led to their successful careers. Title the entry "Arizonans and Others Who Succeed in Business."

STEP TWO: Next, listen to Meg Whitman discuss the success of ebay, a company she founded and lead to great success. (Incidentally, Whitman is now CEO at HP.)

STEP THREE: Select an inspirational and successful individual from the business world. This person can be someone you know in business, or a current public figure in business. Research this individual through online profiles, personal interviews, biographies, corporate web sites and database articles to discover what qualities and resources led to this person's success. Take notes in your notebook under a new page titled, "My Business Inspiration".  Keep track of your sources so you can include them in your bibliography  of resources. STEP FOUR: Create a PowerPoint in which you explain how two key personal qualities of your inspirational and successful businessperson contributed to his or her success. Download and use the template I have created for you to make this presentation.You'll find this file in this week's module. Click on the link, then when it opens "right click" the link and "save as" a file name with your name in it in a location where you can get to it. Once you have downloaded the file and saved it in a safe location, you can begin your research. Use your notebook for taking notes, tracking sources, and making an outline of what goes on each slide. This is an important entry and will be worth more points plus bonus points in your final notebook if you do it well.

STEP FIVE: Get feedback from another person about the content of your slide show. Is it convincing? Did you show through the evidence you presented that this person was successful? Once you are sure the content is strong, proofread your presentation one more time, then upload it to the Canvas assignment.

STEP SIX: Present your PowerPoint to our class.  Review the information learned in the Communications Unit regarding the delivery of speeches.
