Description & Directions
Becoming comfortable with this course, the online environment and resources at CGCC is critical to your success as a student! To have a little fun I have created a hunt around the course to help you navigate, interact with and find some important course information. Although I have asked you to find certain information, you should make sure you read and understand all the course Getting Started, Resource and Syllabus areas of the course.
Let's Get Hunting! Read through each piece of the hunt carefully and answer/complete the Hunt Challenges along the way.
1. Familiarize yourself with Canvas and view the tutorials.
- Canvas is our Learning Management System. Using this tool you will view your course materials, complete your course requirements and take your assessments.
- Hunt Challenge: Update your profile (add an image), review what notifications mean and set your desired notifications. This will determine how you receive notifications from Canvas.
2. Check the Announcement Area.
- The Announcement Area is where your instructor will post class news, updates to assignments/activities and other information.
- Hunt Challenge: Read the first announcement. How often does it say to check the Announcements area? Note your answer for submitting it later.
3. Read the Syllabus.
- The Course Syllabus contains important information about the course and policies you are responsible for. It communicates the overall plan for the course and outlines what is expected of you. You can also find a complete listing of all graded work in the syllabus.
- Hunt Challenge: How many assignments/quizzes are required for this course? Note your answer for submitting it later.
4. Visit the Discussion Boards.
- The Discussion Boards are where you will complete some assignments and find open forums for interacting with your classmates and instructors.
- Hunt Challenge: In the "Introductions" board follow the instructions to complete your introduction assignment.
5. Open the Modules Page.
- The Modules Area is where you can view course materials (including learning objectives, content and resources) and access your course requirements (assignments and quizzes).
- Hunt Challenge: How many learning Modules are in this course? Note your answer for submitting it later.
6. View your Grades.
- This is where your Grades will be posted for your assignments.
- Hunt Challenge: Watch the tutorial on viewing your grades. Using the predictive grading feature enter a "test" score for each assignment. What percentage would you receive in this course if you earned 3 points for all of the assignments/discussion/quizzes and surveys? Note your answer for submitting it later.
7. Learn about Campus Resources.
- There are so many Campus Resources available to help you on your education journey at CGCC.

8. Check the Technical Requirements for Canvas.
- In order for you to successfully find and interact with course materials and activities you will need understand what browser, online tools and other Technical Requirements are best for working in Canvas. You also need to know where to go if you have any problems accessing or interacting with the course.
- Hunt Challenge: View the Technical Requirements for Canvas. What are the recommended browser(s) for Canvas? Which browser is not recommended? Note your answer for submitting it later.
9. Update your Student Center.
- It is really important that the college has your recent contact information on-file so that we can contact you.
- Hunt Challenge: Follow the instructions to update your My.Maricopa Student Center to verify and update your college contact information.
10. Interact with your Instructor.
- Your Instructor is here to help you with this course materials, navigation and requirements. Learn more about your instructor in the Getting Started Module. You are welcome to contact the instructor using Canvas.
- Hunt Challenge: Send your instructor a message using the Canvas Conversation tool indicating you have completed this Scavenger Hunt and submit the answers for question #'s 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 and 8 (review the tutorial for accessing the Conversation Inbox and Sending Messages).
