These are the instructions and some points of clarification for the Perusall readings. Please read all of this page because instructions for your first assignment are at the end!

Step 1) To Access Perusall:

It is important for technology purposes that all of you access the Perusall readings in only one way: From the links under each module:

You MUST access each of the Perusall Readings through this link for each module. Please do not access it by going directly to Perusall's site or any other way, otherwise it causes technological problems in transferring the grades over to Canvas.

Step 2) Instructions and Submission:

Instructions on what your score is comprised of (and thus, what you are expected to do) can be found in the syllabus in an abridged version, and in detail on the "Get Started" tab on Perusall, which includes some examples of comments:

Note: If you cannot access the "Get Started" tab as shown above, that's okay. You can read it in the screenshot above. Here is the link to see some examples of what high quality annotations look like.

Your score is automatically calculated by a fancy algorithm that takes those components into account. So, to answer a specific question I have received from students: To receive full credit (20 pts), you have to read the reading and post comments/questions on the reading, following the suggestions in the above components.

You do not have to "submit" anything. Your score, calculated on the above components, is updated behind the scenes as you work, and it will be automatically transferred to Canvas and made visible to you after the due date for the assignment has passed.

Step 3) After Due Date:

When the Perusall grades have been posted to Canvas, you might notice that it says your assignment was turned in "Late". Do not fear! Your assignment wasn't late - it's simply because I import the scores to Canvas after the due date. Unfortunately, Canvas has a new grading system that will show these as "Late", and there's no way for me to turn that off. So, just be aware that your Perusall reading scores may show as "Late" in the gradebook, but I have it set so that this will NOT affect your grade. You can disregard these "Late" labels.
