COURSE STANDARDS:

Face Covering Rule (can be added to syllabus or used on CANVAS)

In accordance with the Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) policy (per Chancellor’s email 8/12/2021):

Face coverings are required for staff, faculty, students, and guests inside all Mesa Community College (MCC) buildings. While the CDC guidelines state that fully vaccinated individuals do not need face-coverings in certain situations, this policy still requires individuals wear face coverings indoors while on the MCC properties.

Face shields alone are not considered appropriate face coverings and must be worn with an additional face covering underneath. However, accommodations may be made for students and employees with disabilities as approved by Disability Resources and Services and the college Human Resources.

Medical/Health and Religious Accomodations:

Students have the ability to request medical/health accommodation through the MCC Disability Resources Office.

Students have the ability to request religious accommodation by following the ND-4 Religious Accommodation Procedure and communicating with their instructor. From there, the instructor must forward such requests to the department chair and academic dean for review.

Students are required to wear a face mask/covering inside all MCC buildings until such accommodations are determined.

The interactive review for requests for accommodations is intended to explore alternative learning options and will not result in any accommodation that would conflict with or violate existing MCCCD policies.

Students who fail to adhere to this policy may be in violation of the MCCCD Student Conduct Code, specifically Article III, 4, E: Failure to comply with direction of college officials or law enforcement officers in the performance of their duties and/or failure to properly identify oneself to these persons when requested to do so.

Communication/correspondence:
Course announcements will be posted in the Announcements tool in Canvas.  I will send individual correspondence to your Student Gmail Account or through the Canvas Inbox.

Student Email:  Every student at MCC has a student email account assigned through Gmail (Google Mail). Your account is YOURMEID@maricopa.edu. In addition, you can receive messages in the Canvas Inbox. You can customize your Canvas Notification Settings to receive your messages to your preferred contact method (personal email, text message or social network). It is your responsibility to set up your email and notifications based on your preferences and check your messages EVERY DAY.

To receive all your messages properly follow these instructions:

If you have a question, you can email me at my MCC account (isa2193143@mesacc.edu), or use the Canvas conversation tools as described above.  I will make every attempt to respond to your questions within 24 hours except on weekends and holidays, and I expect you to do the same. Realize that what you send over the Internet will directly affect others in the class. Whether you are sending an email or posting a message on the course discussion board, please relate to your instructor and classmates in a polite and considerate manner.

Attendance and Withdrawal Policy

Although attendance may not seem critical in an online course, lack of participation in the course will be considered an absence.  If you do not log on to the course by the end of the first week of class, you are considered a "no-show" and will be withdrawn from the course. If you stop attending this class after the 45th day of the semester, your instructor may award a grade of W, Y, or F depending on your status in the class up until the day you stopped attending.  Please discuss any desires to withdraw from the class with your instructor so together you can decide on the best course of action.

NOTE: Students who fail to complete at least one assignment/exam for two consecutive weeks will be automatically withdrawn from the class as per Maricopa District Policy.

Statement of Withdrawal / Refund PolicyPolicy set forth in MCC catalog will be followed.  Students who officially withdraw from credit classes (in fall, spring, or summer) within the withdrawal deadlines listed below will receive a 100% refund for tuition, class, and registration processing fees.
